Personal bests for Mary Iheke & Rahannah Gillette-Gordon were the highlights of our Women's first 2008 track outing.
Whilst we are still a way from climbing into the Alpha Trophy competition, this match is a good early season indicator of who's been working in the winter - though, again, the weather was very poor.
'Feature' of our team was the total absence of any seniors;just Vets/U20s & U17s,plus U15s in their section! Still, there was a willingness to circulate and enjoy(and keep warm) which bodes well for the first SWL next Saturday at Bromley - this year the Seniors Only section of the League DOES have promotion and relegation.
Mary Iheke ran authoritatively for her 58.80 PB win over 400(within a second of Sarah Harris's U20 Club record & fastest in either trophy) and was also 2nd over 200(26.37). Otherwise,in the senior competition the debuting Ojechi twins,Ebele & Chiamaka, the Schlerf sisters,Katja & Anna, and prolific racer Francesca Currie joined 'veterans' Harriet Lester & Camilla Thrush in the quest for success and some points - hopefully they will be joined by others for Bromley.
Three athletes were available for the U15 section, and all look likely to be prominent in our NYAL teams this summer - Sophie Peel ran 13.84&13.42 over 100&75H;Lucy Clacher ran 13.3 at the hurdles and also was out to 4m16 in the Long Jump, though, perhaps, the best mark came from Rahannah Gillette-Gordon who improved substantially to 26m56 in the javelin.
Overall,we were 7th of the 8 clubs, though the seniors were well in contention in their part of the match. Full results on the Club Noticeboard - or go the Athletics Data Results site.
